Dual board-certified in child & adolescent and adult psychiatry, with more than twenty years of clinical experience.
Dr. Jacob founded Guiding Minds Psychiatry to practice the way she believes care should work: with time, continuity, and a real relationship between a patient, their family, and their physician.
Dr. Maryann Priya Jacob is a dual board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist with more than twenty years of clinical experience. She previously served as an Assistant Professor at Emory University, where she remained active in research and clinical teaching.
She also worked as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta — the service called in when a child on a medical ward is also struggling psychiatrically. That work means caring for medically complex patients alongside pediatricians, surgeons, nurses, and dietitians, and it shapes how she practices today: comfortable with complexity, and used to working as part of a team rather than in isolation.
Her practice centers on mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, and expert management of complex eating disorders across the lifespan — from school-age children through adulthood.
Dr. Jacob uses an integrative approach. Medication is a tool — often an important one — but it is used deliberately, monitored closely, and treated as one component of a comprehensive plan that includes therapy, family involvement, and the patient's broader life.
Care is collaborative by design. With appropriate consent, she communicates directly with pediatricians, therapists, dietitians, and school personnel, so that everyone supporting a patient is working from the same understanding rather than three different ones.
Visits are unhurried. The initial evaluation runs up to ninety minutes, and sometimes across two sessions, because arriving at the right diagnosis takes longer than a standard appointment slot allows.
